On April 30, 2026, Roblox closed Premium to new signups and launched its replacement, a subscription called Roblox Plus. If you already had Premium, nothing was taken away from you that day. If you didn't, the subscription you may have read about in older guides - the one with the monthly Robux stipend - is no longer something you can buy. This guide covers both situations, based on Roblox's own announcement and support documentation.
What happened, in three dates
- April 30, 2026 - Roblox Plus launched at $4.99 USD per month, and Roblox Premium closed to new subscribers on the same day.
- May 30, 2026 - the old Premium perk of a 10 percent bonus on Robux purchases was discontinued. Premium members no longer receive extra Robux when buying.
- Since then - Premium continues to exist only for the people who were already subscribed. Roblox calls these legacy or grandfathered subscriptions.
If you already have Premium
You keep the two things that made Premium matter:
- Your monthly Robux stipend still arrives, at the same tier you were subscribed to.
- Trading, publishing, and selling access still works exactly as before. If you trade limited items, your Premium still qualifies you.
What you lost is the 10 percent bonus on Robux purchases - since May 30, 2026, buying Robux pays the same with or without Premium.
The single most important thing to understand as a legacy member: canceling is a one-way door. Roblox has confirmed that Premium members who cancel cannot resubscribe. There is no rejoining the old plan later; your only option afterward would be Roblox Plus, which works differently. If your subscription lapses because a payment fails, that carries the same risk, so keep your payment method current if you want to stay on the old terms. If you never had Premium: Roblox Plus
New players cannot buy a stipend subscription at the base price anymore. What Roblox sells instead is built around discounts:
- Roblox Plus costs $4.99 per month and gives a 10 percent discount on in-game item and avatar purchases, which rises to 20 percent after three consecutive months of subscribing. The base tier includes no monthly Robux at all.
- Plus Bundles (Plus 500, Plus 1000, Plus 2000) pair the full Plus feature set with a monthly Robux allocation, at higher prices than the base tier. These are the closest remaining thing to the old stipend model.
- Trading access is included. Plus subscribers can trade and resell limited items and publish avatar items, the same gate Premium used to control. Roblox's trading system requires both sides of a trade to hold an active Premium or Plus subscription, so a mixed trade between a legacy Premium member and a Plus subscriber works fine. The honest way to compare the two models: Premium paid you Robux whether or not you spent money, while Plus only returns value when you spend inside the platform. A player who buys avatar items or game passes every month can come out ahead on the discount, especially at the 20 percent tier. A player who mostly sits on their Robux got more from the old stipend - which is exactly the plan Roblox stopped selling.
What this does not change
A few things people have assumed changed, but did not:
- Robux itself works the same. Prices for buying it directly are unchanged by any of this - see how much Robux costs.
- DevEx, the program that pays creators real money for earned Robux, is separate from all subscription products and continues to operate - see what DevEx is.
- Existing limiteds and inventories are untouched. Nobody's items were affected by the subscription change.
- Free accounts still play everything. Subscriptions have never been required to play Roblox, and that remains true.
The bottom line
If you have Premium: it is now a legacy product that nobody can rejoin, so treat the subscription itself as the scarce thing and cancel only if you are sure. If you don't have Premium: Roblox Plus is a discount membership, not an allowance, and whether it is worth $4.99 depends entirely on whether you actually spend inside Roblox every month.
