Classmates on Roblox is a new way to find people from your own school: you verify a school-issued email address, and Roblox shows you the other verified students from the same school, including whether they are online. Roblox calls it a limited pilot. Everything below comes from its help article Classmates on Roblox, created on August 12, 2026 and last edited on August 25 according to the help centre's own article data, which we read on October 15, 2026, alongside the age check, friends and privacy articles it depends on. When we searched the rest of Roblox's English help centre that day, including its Privacy and Cookie Policy, no other article mentioned Classmates, school email verification or UNiDAYS. This one page is the whole public documentation.
Who can use it
During the pilot, Roblox lists three requirements:
- You are 13 to 24 years old.
- You are in one of the two pilot states, Alabama or Nevada.
- You are using the Roblox mobile or desktop app. The article does not list the website or the console apps.
Even then, Roblox says only "select high schools and colleges" are included, and not every school in the pilot states is supported. If you qualify, a Classmates tile appears on the Add Friends page, and you may get a one-time notification. If you do not see the tile, the feature is not available to your account yet; Roblox says it will notify you when it adds more schools.
How to connect your school
- Go to the Add Friends page and tap Classmates.
- Review the feature details, then tap Continue.
- Enter the email address your school issued you. A personal address will not work.
- Confirm your school. If your email is linked to more than one school, you pick from a drop-down list.
- Enter the 6-digit code sent to that inbox.
- Choose your graduation year, or Alumni if you have already graduated.
- You are connected. If your school has not opened yet, you land on its waiting page.
The code comes from UNiDAYS, not Roblox
Roblox partners with UNiDAYS to check school email addresses, so the email with your code comes from UNiDAYS. Roblox's advice is to check your spam or junk folder before tapping Resend code. Some schools block email from outside senders, and if yours does, you cannot connect right now; Roblox says it plans to add other ways to verify. By continuing, you agree to UNiDAYS' terms of service and privacy policy, although Roblox says you will not be registered for a UNiDAYS account.
One practical point of our own, not Roblox's: the only time a code like this should arrive is right after you asked for one in the app. A message about "school verification" that you did not start, or one asking for your Roblox password, is the kind of thing our common Roblox scams guide describes.
There are a few limits. You can be connected to one school at a time, a school email can be linked to only one Roblox account, and there is a daily cap on how many times you can submit an address or request a new code. The school email is used for this check only and is not linked to your account; if you have a verified personal email on the account, that stays the address used for account recovery. That matters because school addresses stop working when you leave, which is why our guide to changing your Roblox email warns against using one for recovery.
What other people can see
| Who | What they see |
|---|---|
| Anyone viewing your profile | No school name |
| A classmate verified at the same school | A Classmate badge on your profile, which does not name the school |
| Everyone else | No school information at all |
| Community search and lists | Your school does not appear |
| Anyone | Never your school email address |
Right after you verify, Roblox shows you your school's name once so you can check it matched you correctly. After that it is hidden everywhere, including from you.
What a verified classmate does get is a view of you before any friendship exists. Roblox's article says you "can see who your classmates are and whether they're online", and that you still decide whether to send a friend request. Once you are friends, you can see what each other is playing, join each other's games, and chat where your age checks allow. Until then, Roblox says, being at the same school "doesn't give anyone extra access to you."
What it does not change
Verifying a school is not an age check, and Roblox is explicit that it does not change your age or unlock anything you could not use before. Chat and other communication features keep following your existing age check, so you only chat with people in similar age groups unless someone is a trusted friend. That matters in a pilot that runs from 13 to 24 and so includes both minors and adults: appearing in the same school's classmates list does not open a chat between people the age check keeps apart. How age groups work is in Roblox's Understanding Age Checks on Roblox article and our guide to voice chat and age verification; the one route around the age-group rule is covered in what trusted friends are.
Founding Members and the reward item
A school's classmates list only opens once enough students have joined. Anyone who joins before that is a Founding Member, and the waiting page shows how many more students are needed, with an invite link you can share. When the school opens, every Founding Member gets a free avatar item, the Founder Reward. It is offsale, so nobody else can get it; it is not tied to a specific school, so wearing it does not reveal where you go; and it is a private item, so nobody else can see it in your inventory. If you wear it, it does show on your avatar and in the Currently Wearing section of your profile, like any other item.
Leaving, transferring and graduating
You can leave at any time: go to your school page, tap the three-dot menu, then Remove and confirm. Roblox warns that removing yourself deletes any reward items you received through the program; the article calls the program "Schools on Roblox" in that one sentence and "Classmates on Roblox" everywhere else. To rejoin later you verify your school email again. If you change schools, remove the old one first, then verify the new address.
When you reach the graduation year you entered, Roblox removes you from the school automatically. Alumni can sign up, but alumni groups are not open during the pilot, so for now they wait on the waiting page.
Notes for parents
The pilot starts at 13, and Roblox's Parental Controls Overview, read the same day, has no setting for Classmates and does not mention it. From 13, it says, a teen manages their own blocking. The control that comes closest is Online status under Visibility, where a linked parent can choose Friends, Trusted friends or No one. Roblox's Online Status and Visibility article says anyone outside the chosen audience sees the user as offline "on your Roblox profile or their Friends list". The Classmates article does not say whether that setting also applies to the classmates list, so we cannot tell you that it does.
Roblox's own safety advice for the feature is short: only add people you actually know, never share your address, phone number or class schedule, and block or report anyone, including someone from your school, using the normal tools described in how to report and block. The wider set of family controls is in our Roblox safety guide for parents.
The careful part of the design is that the school name is hidden even from the student once the match is confirmed. The part to think about is the step before friendship: being online in front of everyone who goes to your school is a new kind of visibility on Roblox, and for now it reaches only two states.
